1. Introduction
Welcome to Covenant Games ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our services.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account using Google or GitHub OAuth, we receive your display name, email address, and profile picture from the provider you choose.
- Game Data: Player names and display names you enter when joining game rooms.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Persistent Identifiers: We generate a random, anonymous identifier stored in your browser's local storage to maintain your game session and track guest statistics.
- Game Statistics: Wins, losses, and games played are recorded and associated with your account or persistent identifier.
- Usage Data: Basic connection information such as browser type, pages visited, and game activity for service functionality.
- Chat and Reports: In-game chat messages and optional issue reports you submit may be stored to operate the service and enforce our rules.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve our gaming services.
- To create and manage your account.
- To track game statistics and display leaderboards.
- To enable social features such as friends lists and game invitations.
- To communicate with you about your account or service changes.
- To show advertising to non‑Pro users and process optional Pro subscriptions.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- Public Game Information: Your display name and game statistics may be visible to other players.
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.
- Service Providers: We use third-party authentication providers (Google, GitHub) whose own privacy policies govern the information they collect.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on our servers using industry-standard security practices. Game state is held in memory during active sessions. Account data and statistics are stored in a local database. We use session cookies and secure tokens to protect your account access.
6. Cookies, Local Storage, and Advertising
- Session Cookies: Used to maintain your login session. These expire after 30 days of inactivity.
- Local Storage: Used to store your persistent player identifier, saved player name, and session reconnection data. You can clear this data through your browser settings.
- Advertising (non‑Pro users): We may display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted by your settings. You can learn more and manage ad preferences at Google Ads Settings and read How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps. Pro subscribers do not see these in-game ad placements.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): Where required by law, we ask for your consent before using cookies or local storage for advertising personalization. This is handled through Google's consent tools linked to our AdSense account.
7. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google OAuth: For account authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- GitHub OAuth: For account authentication. Subject to GitHub's Privacy Statement.
- Google Fonts: For web typography. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense: For display advertising on the site. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy and the AdSense program policies.
- Stripe: For processing Pro subscription payments when enabled. Payment details are handled by Stripe; we receive limited billing metadata (such as subscription status). See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Dictionary.com: Some games (for example Hangman) fetch public word lists and definitions from Dictionary.com to provide hints. We send only the word being looked up, not your account identity, in those requests.
8. Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:

- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Log out and clear your local storage data at any time.
- Opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ads Settings (for ads served by Google).
To exercise these rights, contact us using the email on our Contact page or the in-game issue report while signed in.
10. Data Retention
Account and statistics data are kept while your account is active. Session and game-room data are temporary. Chat and logs may be retained for a limited period for moderation and debugging. You may request deletion of your account data as described above.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
